Glimpses of Heaven

"God is close to the broken hearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed" - Psalm 34:18 Losing someone you love is, simply put, heartbreaking. This week I found myself wanting to reach out to my dear friend Fay for some encouragement. I wanted to hear what...

Living Ready: A Tribute

A precious soul and dear friend, Fay, left this earth today a little sooner than expected. Nothing prepared me for the news as her husband, Glenn, and daughter, Gillian, shared the details with me over FaceTime. Up to that point, Fay was still on life support and the...

Beyond The Cover

We so often hear the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” I remember the first time I heard it, I was just a young school girl in the library with my class. If I’m not mistaken, it was my grade three class. We had this sweet, gentle librarian, Ms. Hearn, who always helped us pick out the best books and she knew the books we’d love. This one day while I sat on the floor scanning through the books, I overheard Ms. Hearn say to one of my classmates, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Curiously, I wondered what she meant by that.

Give Thanks

Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t been what we hoped it would be when the clock struck midnight that last day in December. We all shouted “Happy New Year” while we hugged and kissed those who were there to ring in the new year. No bubbles, no restricted numbers, no lockdowns! Who would have imagined such a thing? I know my mind couldn’t even fathom the thought had someone pre-warned me! I think I would have taken a rain check on 2020! Or maybe skipped it altogether.

Don’t you love it when you hear your children/grandchildren say, “I love you”? When your child comes up to you and says that they love you right out of the blue, it’s just one of the best feelings ever.Just like you love it when your child declares his/her love, so...

Patience. Persistence.

Patience. Persistence.

Patience. Persistence. These two words have been on my mind.We need to be patient. We need to learn how to wait. Maybe you have planted many seeds. A farmer needs to wait patiently for the seeds to take root. It takes a while before the farmer sees anything stick up...

Somebody

Somebody

Several years ago, I heard Pastor Bruce Belair say, “A big shot is just a little shot away from home.” I have thought about this phrase many times since then. Sometimes people don’t value the individuals in their own backyard. Learn to appreciate all the wonderful...

Sweeter Gets The Journey

Sweeter Gets The Journey

Heaven is for real. There’s a movie with that title, but I’ve known that in my heart for a long time.Steve’s grandmother, Nan Clarke, would sing this chorus when Steve was around. Here are some of the words:“Sweeter gets the journey every day Serving Jesus really...

He Loves You Back

He Loves You Back

I met Steve when we were in Grade 1. For me, it was love at first sight! I remember giving him a large valentine on Valentine’s Day when we were in elementary school. I remember pretending to be married to Steve Clarke - I would pretend to be April Clarke, married to...

Don’t Worry – A Recipe

Don’t Worry – A Recipe

The bible teaches us not to worry. Often, though, we find ourselves worrying. When we catch ourselves worrying, we should start to pray. Tell God what’s on our hearts. Tell God what’s bothering us. Then we need to start thanking Him for all the wonderful things He has...

Good Problems

Good Problems

One phrase you'll hear a lot when you interact with our leadership team at 135 Main is "that's a good problem to have". It is a guiding philosophy of our church. We look for "good problems". All too often good things are prevented from happening because we worry too...

Desire God’s Best for Others

Desire God’s Best for Others

Am I my brother’s keeper? Hopefully, I am. Shouldn’t I be watching out for my brother? Shouldn’t I pray for my brother? Shouldn’t I want what’s best for my brother? Shouldn’t I be willing to sacrifice my life for my brother? 1 John 3:16 - We know what real love is...

Think Different

Think Different

Apple’s motto is “Think different.” The soldiers were mocking Jesus. They placed a crown of thorns on His head and put a purple robe on Him.I believe this act of placing a crown of thorns on Jesus’ head was significant. The head houses all of our thoughts. The...

What You Were Born To Do

What You Were Born To Do

Several years ago, I was watching Celine Dion sing on TV. As she sang, I remember thinking that this woman was born to sing! I also recall praying a very dangerous prayer that day - I said to God that I wanted to do what I was born to do.I believe things shifted in my...
